In
any given group of students there is likely to be a budding writer or artist. During my
school visits I always try to challenge students to believe in and to value their own
creative efforts.
Paul is available for school and library visits that are within a two and one-half hour drive of Lexington, Kentucky. His programs are highly interactive. They are designed to help get students fired up about reading and writing, and to help them believe in their own creative abilities by tapping into their imaginations. He begins with an energetic performance of one of his books followed by a few anecdotes about growing up in small-town Appalachia. Then, using free association and role-playing, students create a story idea of their own and follow it through all the steps that would be necessary to turn it into a book. The importance of revision is especially emphasized. The session ends with Q & A. There is no limit to audience size.
